Borderlands WOOOO, Modern Warfare 2 BOOO

So Borderlands unlocks on Steam today, and I have my copy preloaded, ready to ride that sexy futuristic Diablo train to fun town. I wasn’t as excited about the game until I got a copy yesterday, so yeah, woo!  Also, for those that pre-ordered Left 4 Dead 2, like me, you should get to preloading that demo that hits tomorrow.

I was sooo excited about Modern Warfare 2, and now I honestly don’t care about it anymore. Why, you ask? Maybe it’s Infinity Ward’s attempts to kill PC gaming. Maybe. Honestly, I think the worst part about it is that they’re not being honest.  Ok, we all KNOW you guys are lazy, and IWNET is just a way of making the same console game for PC without preserving the standard server list and dedicated servers, but don’t lie and say it’s better for a community that does not want it. As a PC gamer, I hate matchmaking for one.  I like being able to choose my server, find the best ping, meet some new guys, jump into that same server they’re all playing in that THEY RUN.  I DON’T want to be connected to some swearing group of 14 year olds automatically like I don’t know how to use my computer and be forced to play with idiots I’ll never see or care about again.I don’t want to be connected to a random server and then “invite” my friends; if I’m on Steam, they can already see me in a game and join. Or I can give them the IP address. Oh, and we can have custom maps, and tournaments, and clans, and all that stuff that made PC gaming PC gaming.

Also, IW claims that “The biggest benefit of using IWnet by far is the fact that you don’t have to worry about joining a server full of aim-bots, wallhacks, or cheaters,” Bowling writes. “Or relying on the server admin of the server to constantly be monitoring, banning, and policing it.”  This is stupid, because if you’re in a good dedicated server, this is NEVER  a problem.  And when you’re playing with people you know, it’s NEVER a problem.  What it boils down to is I don’t want the Xbox experience on my PC; if I wanted that, I’d get another shittily put together 360 that I have to pay to play online with idiots. Geez IW, pull your heads outta your asses.

Update:  Sign the petition and cancel your pre-order for the game if you do not like what Infinity Ward is doing. Also, what the hell is with the arbitrary price matching with the consoles? There’s no way I’m paying $60 for this shit, Left 4 Dead 2 and Borderlands have been selling on steam with a 10% discount off of $50 bucks if you pre-order. Much like Sony got smacked down after getting smug and thinking they could sell a console out the gate for 5-600 bucks, I hope Infinity Ward gets the same smackdown for thinking they can take PC gamers for an extra 10 bucks for no reason, and I hope the community ignores this game like they did Battlefield 2142.

what’s even stranger and weirder about this mess is the PR push EA is doing with Bad Company 2 for the PC… which was a console only game the first time around. Apprently, BC2 is going to have dedicated servers, mod tools, the whole sha-bang-a-bang just for PC users. EA is trying to take advantage of IW’s PR fallout. Will be interesting, EA has perhaps won me over to their side.
